Measurement Principle of the Hydrogen Probe /Hydrogen determination probe
Precise control of trace inert gases is employed; the gas is introduced via a submerged hydrogen‑sensing probe’s delivery tube into a ceramic chamber containing a molten steel sample, allowing equilibrium to be established between the gas and the steel. A vacuum pump then draws the equilibrated gas into the sensing device.
The hydrogen‑determination probe provides an interface for inert gas and for hydrogen in the molten steel once equilibrium has been reached. A small tube connects the probe to the hydrogen analyzer, drawing gas into the system’s main line to deliver an adequate flow to the probe. Hydrogen is transferred very rapidly through the probe’s interface. The balance gas is drawn by a vacuum pump into the instrument’s sensing unit and then vented to the atmosphere, forming an open loop. The sensing unit measures thermal conductivity to determine the partial pressure of hydrogen, from which the hydrogen concentration is calculated using an instrument‑specific formula.
